Senior Apparel Designer/ Manager

Sr. Designer for Men’s Training apparel, representing approximately 20% of total men’s volume. 

  • Senior apparel designer and manager for the Training category Reebok/ Adidas Group. Develop concepts and creative strategies that fulfill objectives of the category, brand concepts and briefs. Collaborate with Product Marketing teams to ensure holistic storytelling. Collaborate with cross-functional team members to ensure consumer and brand focus.

  • Conceptualize, research and apply new technologies to the training apparel category.

  • Research market competitors and trends within Performance/ Lifestyle apparel as well as other relevant industries.

  • Work closely with junior designers to translate seasonal concepts to product lines. Identify problems, develop solutions, and seek innovative approaches to the development of functional sports and lifestyle apparel.

  • Established effective interaction between Product Marketing, Product Development, and technical design teams to build focus and direction for the Men’s Training BU. Track the sales of my categories to aid in the creation of SKU counts for upcoming seasons.

  • Create seasonal color and trend direction for the men’s training team.

  • Manage proto request handoffs and product development timelines

  • Identify solutions and resolve costing/ margin issues.

  • Attend fit and proto review sessions; make revisions to artwork and technical call outs (design tech packages).

  • Plan and execute SKU planning and building with the men’s product marketing team at the beginning of each season. Manage the men’s Training Design calendar. Working with the Product Marketing, Product development, Production and design team to plan and manage all key due dates of the design calendar.

Zumiez inc. Everett, WA (2007 – 2015)
Senior Designer

Sr. Design and product development for Young Men’s apparel over multiple brands including Empyre, Dravus, Aperture snow and Freeworld, representing approximately 45% of total men’s volume. 

  • Sr. design and product development for the entire men’s Private Label snow program under the Empyre and Aperture brands. Seasonal trips to China and Korea to develop specialty snow fabrics. Established seasonal trend and color direction. This is full technical outerwear sitting with snow specific labels like 686, Analog and Thirtytwo.

  • Conceptualized and executed Dravus as a new Private Label brand which accounts for 25% of the   Private Label mix under multiple categories including, casual jackets, denim, cotton fleece and casual pants. Oversaw and directed an internal team to launch the brand in Zumiez stores.

  • Shopped the domestic and international markets for trends; attended all major trade shows.

  • Provided fabric, color and design direction for Casual jackets, cotton fleece, bonded fleece, casual pants and denim across all men’s Private Label brands. Worked directly with overseas vendors on costing, construction and fit.

  • Built and maintained the men's private label design cut & sew design calendar, scheduling and running all men's private label design meetings.

  • Conceptionalized and created seasonal trend presentations for the men's private label cut & sew brands including Empyre, Dravus, Freeworld and Zine. 

  • Established effective interaction between buyers, product development, and technical design teams to build focus and direction for private label brands. Track the sales of my categories to aid in the creation of SKU counts for upcoming seasons.

  • Key contributor in increasing above classifications by $250+ million, since 2002.

  • Exclusive design and product development for No Boundaries (fashion-oriented sportswear, activewear and swimwear), Sand and Sun (swimwear), Athletic Works (activewear, sportswear apparel and footwear).

  • Provide direction in upgrading the fashion image of all classifications through improved quality, fabric and trim.

UMBRO, New York, NY (1997 – 2000)
Designer
Relaunched to the U.S. market, an upscale collection of soccer apparel for a British-based firm. 
Introduced a new image for the brand, through new silhouette, color and fabrics.


Increased below average sales 15% to 25% by re-designing core products, improving merchandise    planning and enhancing product development processes.

  • Re-structured product mix by eliminating low margin items and introducing new products resulting in 30% higher earnings.

  • Identified new product opportunities in multiple markets and led development teams through the design, merchandising, quality, sourcing and sales evaluation process.

  • Implemented seasonal calendars for textile development, design, garment sourcing and production, which resulted in an improvement of on time delivery from 72% to 97%.

  • Successfully sourced, negotiated pricing, developed and launched retail product lines, which generated $41 million in sales (30% over plan).
